Solar energy controversy runs hot in McCool Junction

When Hank McGowan signed up to lease around 350 acres of his land for a solar panel facility in May 2020, he never thought “everyone was going to be so upset about it.”
Rather, McGowan told the News-Times recently, he saw an opportunity to help both himself and his community of McCool Junction.
McGowan realized that the lease would be significantly more profitable and less risky than farming. And since he wasn’t sure that his kids were going to come home and farm, the lease could ensure that the land stayed in his family.
